EPREL Registry
Manufacturers and importers bringing models subject to energy label regulations to the EU market for the first time must first register them in the EU’s EPREL database (European Registry for Energy Labeling, registered models must be given “published” status)
The registration obligation stems from the EU Energy Labeling Framework Regulation 2017/1369 (Article 12).
What is the EPREL database
EPREL is a collection of product data and consists of two parts. The first part – a public database, available to consumers, who can search here for information on individual products: the basic parameters of the device, the label and the product information sheet (formerly known as the product sheet).
Part two of EPREL – is a closed base for market surveillance. Here are the details of the documentation, which largely depends on the product group and requires consideration of the delegated acts for the product. However, since the delegated acts, developed on the basis of the previous EU Framework Directive / 2010/30, have no reference to ERPEL, it is unclear what data would be sufficient for a product group to meet the legal requirements of the Framework Regulation 2017/1369, in particular its Article 12.5.
Model registration process
Each supplier subject to the requirements must create an account with EPREL on the website Product database (europa.eu). An electronic company seal is required for registration. Once the account is authenticated, the next step is to register models. There are three possibilities, i.e. manual registration of a single model, manual registration of hundreds of models by uploading a compressed file in a layout defined by EPREL, or the third method, m2m registration i.e. direct communication of information systems. The EU Commission’s EPREL guide is available at this link.
Product groups
Product groups required to register in EPREL:
- air conditioners,
- lighting,
- vacuum cleaners,
- displays,
- refrigerators,
- dishwashers,
- washing machines,
- washer-dryers,
- tumble dryers,
- hoods,
- ovens,
- water heaters,
- hot water storage tanks for water heaters and solar devices for water heaters,
- commercial refrigerators,
- residential ventilation units,
- solid fuel boilers and their packages,
- local space heaters (including air and solid fuel) and packages of space heaters/combination heaters (boilers, cogeneration, heat pumps).
To support manufacturers and importers, APPLiA Home Appliance Europe and national associations, including APPLiA Polska, analyzed specific delegated acts on energy labeling. As a result, templates were created to clarify the legal requirements for technical documentation for each of the more than 20 product groups under EPREL.
